Tregargus Valley

Tregargus Valley is situated just north of St.Stepehen in Brannel Cornwall. In the late 19th. century it was an industrial location with China Stone quarries and mills operating from around 1870. Some of these continued working right up until 1965. The quarries have been infilled but remains of some of the mills survive today. The area is leased to The Tregargus Trust by the local China Clay producers Goonvean and Imerys and the trust is active in managing and conserving the valley with access to the public. The Barn River runs through the valley which has wooded sides, and this, coupled with the industrial relics, provides much interest for the visitor. There is no official car park but a small layby at the top end of the valley on the road between Nanpean and St.Stephen in Brannel provides parking for about four cars.
