Perranporth on the north Cornish coast has a 2 mile long beach of golden sand and sand dunes for almost its entire length. Preserved in the sand dunes is an oratory said to be built by St.Piran to promote Christianity. St.Piran is the patron saint of Cornwall and is said to have arrived at Perranporth on a millstone after being cast to sea by the Irish king who was suspicious of Piran's miraculous powers. The beach, sand dunes and rocks at either end of the beach provide much interest for photographers. There is good car parking and toilet facilities.
