Baal China Clay Pit

Baal China Clay pit is located North East of St.Austell and is no longer a working clay pit. Nature is beginning to take over the edges of the pit and the surrounding area presenting an interesting almost lunar landscape. The majority of the pit is fenced to prevent access by the public but there are paths around a large part of the pit edge providing access to some excellent photography opportunities. Upon parking your vehicle at the point indicated on the map by the blue marker, proceed through the adjacent gate and follow a sandy track slightly uphill for about 200 metres. Where the path forks take either direction which will open up to provide many views of the pit. In 1971 Baal Pit was used as a location for a Doctor Who episode.
